Goal setting is hard for me. This is probably one of my biggest weaknesses. I have a hard time writing out and sticking to my goals. For some advice we’ve got another guest post from Ryan Billingsley. You guys really enjoyed his last one. So here we go!

We are all moving forward towards the future.  Second by second, minute by minute.  With hopes and dreams about what could be.   Living life can be similar to taking a road trip.  Without navigation you can get lost and never reach the destination.   This could lead to time wasted, stress, and regret.  That is why when planning a road trip, a navigation system or road map is vital.  It gives the traveler direction and a timeline for reaching the destination.   The same thing can be said for the journey of living and the path each person takes through life.  It can be easy to live without direction.

The Ancient Greek Definition of Happiness is: The joy you feel growing towards your potential.  In order to grow towards your potential, you need to have goals to identify what your potential is to be.  As the journey of life unfolds it is easy to get lost in the noise.  The little daily routines and habits can make life feel busy with little time left to plan and look ahead.  By setting time aside to create goals you will make a road map to guide you to your potential and beyond.

It can sound overwhelming to get started with setting your direction and goals but the easiest way to start is by focusing on one big vague goal that is in line with your passion.  Next make it a habit of constantly revisiting that goal daily.  This will slowly start the process of filling in the gaps with short and medium range goals which will make the end goal become clear and obtainable.  In order to best envision your potential and goals it is important to record them by writing them down, typing them out, or capturing them with a voice recorder daily.  This will help remind you of where you want to be and how you plan to get there.

The human potential can easily be wasted with no direction.  By documenting your passion, goals, and direction, you will be well on the way to making your potential a reality.  Evaluating your list of goals every morning will create a healthy habit which will begin your day with motivation and direction. Before you know it, you will have exceeded your original goals and set new bigger goals to work towards.  Stop waiting for life to happen and take action to create the life you want to live!
